Autism and ADHD Assessment

Screening and diagnostic assessments for neurodiverse conditions

It is estimated that in the UK approximately 1 in 100 people has an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and 4 in 100 people have ADHD. However, many people, including children and young people, often experience long delays in waiting times from referral to accessing a diagnostic assessment.

In December 2024 only 4.6% of patients in the NHS with an open referral for suspected autism were seen within the recommended 13 weeks target and patients are frequently waiting over 10 months for a first appointment for an ADHD diagnosis even within the private sector.

Our Autism and ADHD Assessment Service provides access to private screening assessments, comprehensive diagnostic assessments and detailed reports for adults, children and young people suspected of having autism, ADHD or another neurodiverse condition without being placed on a long waiting list.

Each assessment undertaken is led by a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist who works in line with National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines for autism and ADHD and has undertaken additional specialist training to differentiate autism and ADHD from other neurodiverse conditions or potential mental health concerns to ensure a correct diagnosis or psychological formulation is made for each person we assess.

We offer three distinct assessment options, all of which include a comprehensive report and clinical letter, therefore you can tailor the assessment according to your needs and circumstances.

Neurodevelopmental Screening – This is a combined screening assessment for both autism and ADHD as there can be significant overlap between symptoms. A comprehensive full diagnostic assessment may be recommended following the screening for autism, ADHD or a combined assessment for both conditions and this would be discussed with you by the assessing clinician at the end of the appointment.

Basic Diagnostic Assessments – This is a standard diagnostic assessment for either autism or ADHD using “gold standard” assessment tools ensuring that the minimum clinical requirements for diagnosis as detailed within the NICE guidelines are met.

Enhanced Diagnostic Assessments – This is a diagnostic assessment for either autism or ADHD that uses “gold standard” assessment tools as recommended by NICE and includes additional psychometric assessments to identify whether there are other co-occurring conditions present. This includes a school-based assessment and observation for children. This level of assessment is not typically offered amongst other private providers and has helped our patients to achieve a successful Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) to get their child additional support and funding if this is recommended.

We offer all assessment appointments within 1-3 weeks of enquiries being made. To book an initial screening assessment with one of our Clinical Psychologists or to find out more about our service, please use the form located on our contact page and a member of our team will be in touch.

Dr Adamson was welcoming and friendly and supported us in assessing our sons' behaviours.

She made sure she took everything on board that we said and re-assessed everything following meetings/conversations.

She was flexible, approachable and caring.

We are pleased we contacted Turnaround Psychological Services for support in assessing our son, who was found to be on the autistic spectrum, however even if he wasn't I feel Vidyah's guidance and advice would have still helped.
